Nine Days on the Road as a Marine Distributor
Nine full days on the road took me from the South Coast of NSW through Victoria, then on to Goolwa and Adelaide in South Australia. As a marine distributor, this trip was about more than kilometres — it was about seeing our customer network first‑hand and understanding the regions we support across Australia.
Understanding Our Marine Customer Network
At DeckHardware, we often talk about servicing customers far and wide, but spending nine days travelling really reinforces just how spread out our marine trade network is. Despite a tight schedule and long driving days, I still wished I’d had more time to visit additional customers along the way.
Learning the Regions from the Ground Up
For many years, my dad Phil made road trips like this, travelling region to region to visit Trade Customers. This trip was about continuing that approach and gaining a better understanding of the geography and logistics involved in servicing marine businesses across multiple states.
Previously, I’d only driven as far as Goolwa before flying home, so completing the full drive back from Adelaide gave me a much clearer appreciation of the distances our customers and deliveries often involve.
Stock, Catalogues and Customer Visits
The vehicle was loaded with new marine stock including our newest brand Sea Sure, for trade customers to view in person, along with boxes of DeckHardware catalogues. Fitting everything into the timeframe was no small task, but it was worth it to have products on hand during customer visits. One highlight was a special delivery of a LIROS door mat and Rope Stand for one of our stockists.
Straight Back into the Warehouse
After arriving home late on Sunday, it was straight back into the DeckHardware warehouse on Monday. No downtime — but a good reminder of how important these trips are in supporting our customers and keeping our marine distribution network running smoothly.
